Virginia L. Johnson



Virginia Lee Johnson, 85, of Goldsboro passed away Monday at Wayne UNC Healthcare. She is the daughter of the late Ernest and Edna Besser, and is the wife of William E. Johnson. Born in Battle Creek, Michigan, she was a loving wife and mother. Virginia traveled extensively throughout the United States and Europe as part of her husband’s military career. She spent the last 32 years of her life living in Goldsboro and was a former employee of Brody’s Department Store and later Proffitt’s Department Store.

The family will be holding a private service.

In addition to her husband, William, she is survived by a son, Gregory A. McDaniel and wife, Dinah of Atwater, CA, a daughter in law, Judy McDaniel of Durham, NC; a sister in law, Pauline and husband, Richard Smith of Battle Creek, MI; grandsons, Christopher and Jeffory McDaniel of CA, Stephen McDaniel of Christchurch, New Zealand, and Dustin Rigdon serving in the United States Army; granddaughters, Priscilla, Aliana, and Patricia of New Zealand, Tawnya and husband, David Krick of LA; and other great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, “Ginny” was preceded in death by her sons, Mitchell K. McDaniel, Kevin McDaniel, and Patrick McDaniel; and siblings, Bill Besser, Alan “Bud” Besser, and Norma Jo Speroff.
